The distinctive sound of fracturing wood reached Arthur’s ears despite the commotion of the tempest. To any seafarer, the ringing crack and crumble of timber was never a good sign and every man with a moment to spare glanced at the source of the disaster. The topmost section of the mainmast and its yardarm had snapped cleanly off its base and was tumbling into the ravenous sea.
Before the wreckage can hit the waves, a bellowing cry was raised on the ship, “Man overboard!”
Arthur shouldered past his men to peer over the edge of the ship. Struggling and spluttering against the heaving waves was a small figure, immediately re

Living in a mansion overlooking the sea, I have witnessed tumultuous waves before, colliding against the rocks as if it believed it had the prowess to topple a cliff before receding as foam and shortly trying again. It was like watching a formation of soldiers with muskets. They would line themselves into rows: the first crouching on their knees, the second standing, and they would take turns shooting and reloading, the result being an almost constant volley of attack. The sea was relentless and ceaseless, never stopping even in the calmest days. Patiently, bit by bit, the cliff will succumb, crumble and sink to its depths.
But all that had

We set out yesterday. The whole crew were ordered off the warship, and most of the sick and wounded were admitted into local clinics since not everyone could come along to Calicut. Arthur picked out his best two hundred men and ordered those grounded to remain in Cape Town under the command of the first lieutenant. Allistor was one of the two hundred men and so was Peter since neither Arthur nor Allistor dared leave their little brother to unknown hands.
I often asked Allistor about Peter. He recovered consciousness for the first time late in the day after the fight and in the haze of a fearsome fever. Peter never seemed to be sound asleep.

This was absolutely ridiculous.
Sweat had broken over the harbormaster’s forehead as he stood twiddling his thumbs and averting his eyes. Arthur furiously snapped his gaze to the sea, glistening and foaming under the blistering afternoon sun.
He was so close. Francis had just slipped from his grasp and freely hopped away to God knows where. If only Arthur had arrived two days earlier, he might’ve dealt with that wretch for once and for all.
Arthur drew a hand through his hair, watching the waves roll and heave over one another. He might have missed Francis in Cape Town, but he could not have gone too far. Hell, there had been b

Lars’s patience was wearing thin. Very thin. The clerk by the counter seemed to sense it as well, having experienced the brunt of his agitation more times than a good man should in one lifetime.
“No news at all?” he demanded again, every word a chip of ice and sharp as knifepoint.
“None, sir.”
Lars had received the same useless, hopeless reply for five days now and he was on the verge of clouting the fellow on the head even though it was not his fault there was no better answer. I had discovered Alfred’s whereabouts just as an officer came by and told him the Captain was looking for him. Alfred told me to come along with him and he’ll tell my orders after he settled things with Captain Kirkland. When we arrived, I did not expect to find Dutchmen on the ship nor the young woman who seemed a year or two older than me. As we accompanied Alfred to his cabin, I was aware that she kept glancing curiously, if not very perplexingly, at me. I was about the same height as her, but she clearly presented herself as her true age while I was acting as someone four years my junior. As we walked, I did my best to ignore

Captain Antonio Fernandez Carriedo seemed to be the kind of man who liked to smile no matter how grim circumstances were. Arthur was met by that smug grin when he entered the small room Fernandez was confined in and it did not fail its purpose to provoke him. Arthur kept that indignation behind a cold face, determined not to satisfy Fernandez by letting that blatant arrogance get on his nerves.
“I have taken your sword as the sign of your surrender,” Arthur informed him. “We are a day’s journey from Cape Town and I’ll have you shipped off to Britain as a prisoner of war.”
Fernandez shrugged nonchalantly.

Captain Kirkland was gone now, withdrawing to the solitude of his cabin, lost in a haze of helplessness that only evoked further infuriation. The fight seemed to drain out of Allistor as he slumped against the wall, ruffling his auburn hair in rough, vicious yanks.
“Allistor, do you really have to…?”
My mouth couldn’t word the miserable question and I trailed into hopeless silence. Allistor sighed heavily and straightened up. He didn’t need me to finish what remained of my inquiry. He himself had gone over that dilemma many t

I shared the same disbelief on the Captain’s face. My arm was still jarred from smashing the butt of the pistol against the Spaniard’s head. I honestly did not think this… strategy would work far beyond my expectations. I had initially hoped to distract the enemy from the Captain for a moment or two so the Captain could compose himself. It definitely came as a surprise to watch my victim keel over, unconscious to the world.
The pistol slipped from my trembling fingers and fell to my feet. A fear was starting to sink in. It was a mingling kind of emotion, something honestly closer to intense guilt than fright. I had not kill

Captain Arthur Kirkland cursed himself for being caught off guard by an enemy. His ship had taken enough of a beating and he had hoped he wouldn’t encounter an enemy keen for a brawl. The fog had begun to lift when both ships spotted each other as dark blotches in the distance, and the enemy ship had jumped straight to the chase, eager like a hunting dog that had scented its quarry. It wasn’t long before he glimpsed the distinct flag of the nation that currently sided with France and therefore was also Britain’s contender in the war. The winds weren’t strong enough to carry him to safety or at least drag out the race i

The realisation came to him out of the blue as he was sipping his coffee that morning, struck him in an epiphany, caught him off-guard, left Lukas silently reeling in his thoughts as he stared at the woman sitting across the table from him.
All at once he was conscious of his racing heartbeat, the flare of warmth in his chest, how the colours of her irises swirled and blended with the steam rising from her cup, all too aware of the few stubborn strands of flyaway hair sticking out of her tresses, messy from sleep, and the warm mug in his hands seemed to grow hotter still -
Lukas set his coffee down with a decisive clack, startling her and p

Steam rose in slanted spirals from the spring, concealed from the world in a narrow glen. A crumbling wall of stone cast a shadow across the golden waters as the day wore into the early hours of the afternoon, and a crisp breeze wove its way through the upper branches of the rotten oak, over the base of which water trickled at a downwards slope into the cavern.
You perched atop a boulder with your hand on the oak, and you slid it down the trunk, its bark splintering. You were rubbing the grit between your fingers when he stumbled into the ravine: yet another brash explo

If there is one thing that (Name) finds endearing about her beloved is his unrelenting diligence and stubborn character. Abel Van Mogens isn’t quite an easy man to fall into a romantic commitment; although his handsome appearance is nothing short of charming, there is an awkward air of stillness that proves overwhelming for any woman to stay in. To the unfortunate souls that dare cross his domain, he keeps himself shut, as if he deems them unworthy in his presence. He isn’t expressive and rarely speaks—much less affectionate words that any woman would enjoy listening from a man—un

Everyone knew that beauty was a subject sustained by tradition — although the passage of time brought forth endless struggles to preserve them in its purest form. Adjusting the rearview mirror, Alfred eyed the reflection, tilting it upward before sinking back against his seat. He slacked his arm around the passenger seat and glanced to the side mirror, drumming his fingers against the steering wheel while watching the pale sky of dawn fade into day.

History nerd who likes writing Hetalia reader inserts. Yep. I tend to base my stories on historical events and try my best to be as accurate as I can. Every once in a while a non-historical oneshot makes it way through just to freshen things up a lil.
I don't update regularly because writing and research takes a long time. I also like to fully complete my longer stories before putting them up here and that could take up months (sorry, blame high school for that). My style of writing is pretty straightforward, so don't expect the type of flowery language that makes people swoon. I try but they don't always come out as poetic.
Everything else aside, enjoy reading through my stuff. Feedback would be greatly appreciated, too. Thanks!
Damn. I've been revisiting and revisiting your page in hopes I could beat my notifications. I just can't wait for your stories. ;u; I am totally in love with your writing skills. It's like drugs to me. xD oh my gosh I'm being weird. xD I'm so sorry. I'm just a fan and I just have to tell you. Continue being awesome.
